Guest Editor Dr. Oz Wants You to See Actual Belly Fat!

iVillage

The night before my interview with the infamous Dr. Mehmet Oz, iVillage's Guest Editor, what do I do? I eat an entire box of Mrs. Fields cookies. That's right. A sweets binge before sitting down with the man who's been called America's doctor -- the man who devotes his popular daytime show to encouraging all of us to put those Mrs. Fields cookies away!

I mention that anecdote because it was all I could think about when, during an exclusive interview, Dr. Oz asked me to put on some medical gloves and feel a sample of actual belly fat that is inside our bodies. The belly fat was gross to look at and heavy in my hands, and I couldn't stop thinking about how horrible it was to have that inside my body. Of course, I was also thinking how much more belly fat I had after all those cookies!

And that's precisely the point. Dr. Oz wants to gross us out a bit to spur some action. "The number one thing I focus on on the show is motivation," said the doctor, who still performs surgeries, during an hour-long casual conversation inside his New York City office right next to Radio City Music Hall. "I can throw the facts at you. I can give you ten ways to lose this fat right now, but you won't care unless you've seen the fat. And when you realize this is in you, and again, on average ten times more than this is rolling around inside of our bodies... when you recognize this is part of you, all of a sudden those tips, those steps, they're real. You want to take them. You want to take action."

Your turn to see belly fat up close and personal! Watch here now:

So what can you do to get rid of that belly fat? All week long here on iVillage, Dr. Oz will be offering his tips and tricks, such as cutting out the white foods -- white bread, white rice, white pasta, etc. "Amazingly, it's the sugar you eat that causes this fat to accumulate because the body rapidly transfers that sugar into storage to fat. You want to eat foods that naturally melt away fat," he told me. Check out some of his favorite "fat melters" here, including coconut oil, which he says you can use in place of butter. (I'm buying some as soon as possible!)

Of course, we also had to ask him if he has any Mrs. Fields cookies kinds of days and if he has any guilty pleasures. He has to have some right? Indeed, he does!

Watch here to find out what are Dr. Oz's guilty pleasures:

We can give you a hint when it comes to the foods even Dr. Oz can't quite resist -- think chocolate and peanuts!

Watch this sneak peek of Dr. Oz's Monday, February 4th on fat melters -- yes, there is such a thing!

Be sure to come back for more from Dr. Oz this week on iVillage as he reveals his flat belly diet (who doesn't want a flat belly!), weighs in on the controversial HCG diet, and reveals the secret to his thriving 28-year marriage with his wife, Lisa.
